Our Curriculum & Approach

Practical Life

Students are introduced to practical life exercises in the first two years. These exercises satisfy your child's need to imitate adult behavior and achieve increasing levels of independence. They also serve to lengthen attention span and aid in the development of fine motor coordination.

Examples: pouring, sorting, sewing exercises, hand washing, fruit slicing, magnets, tracing, sweeping, cutting, folding, zipping

Sensorial

Sensorial exercises involve innovative educational materials that assist your child in the development and refinement of their senses. They learn to grade and sequence objects according to their traits, giving the student a clear, deep understanding of patterns, groups and sets. These activities prepare the child for the more advanced math and geometry activities of kindergarten.

Examples: pink tower, geometric cabinet, color tablets, rough & smooth boards, fabric matching

Cultural Enrichment

In addition to the core curriculum, your child will be engaged in delightful activities that instill a lifelong love of sciences, history, cultures and the arts. Our school is infused with music of many varieties and peoples.
Students learn about physical and political geography, people and flags of distant countries, and the cultural similarities that unite all people. Music, art, architecture, and food are also a part of this experience.

Examples: globes, maps, music & movement, botany, zoology

Math & Language

We match each child's ability to the appropriate materials so that your child's learning experiences are positive, rewarding and provide optimum learning at each stage of development.

Introduction to mathematics begins with clear, sensorial activities. As each math concept is internalized, your child will progress from concrete objects to the more abstract understanding required for advanced math.

Examples: Decimal system identity, cube vs. square concepts, math operations (addition, subtraction, etc.) using Montessori golden beads

Language is taught through a variety of multi-sensory activities. As your child differentiates and recognizes sounds, they begin the process of word building, and then blending sounds into meaningful reading. During the kindergarten year, student reading skills typically range from the early stage of phonetic reading to the study of the functions of the parts of speech.

Examples: Matching cards, stories, poetry, listening games

Educational Themes

Our core curriculum is tied together by an educational theme each month. A theme engages your child in a new subject to broaden their sense of self. With each theme, your child will experiment with a scientific concept, hear and read about an author, listen and study a composer, get artistic, and experience world cultures through geography and social studies.

Examples: Picasso, Mozart, Pumpkins, Winter Animals, Apples, French, Spanish, Insects, Plants & Seeds

Outdoor Learning

We encourage your child to explore the world around them, and we believe the outdoor environment is a natural extension of the classroom.

Outdoors, children are able to build on their classroom knowledge through experiences of nature and constant contact with the changing seasons.
